Description Hawley. Brooks Hawley with goat and father, W. R. Hawley, with two dogs.

Brooks Hawley note: Dodey (goat), Skip (hound), and Tiny (spaniel). This was in 1918. Dodey was good at eating the washing on the line but was not so important very long. But Skip and Tiny were significant for years in my growing up. I learned to grow up with animals but knew little of kids to play with, or there would be special friends as Harold Weaver or Lloyd Izatt. I knew nothing about girls. To this day I am no good in a crowd. I know how to hold a puppy or a calf but don't know how to make up to a baby.

This seems to be a period when few pictures were taken, so this is the best there is for Father and I at that time. What a brittle person I was then! It was the formative years, so I continue to be a brittle person very much the same 50 years later, rooted in Sumpter Valley, bookish, narrow-minded, protected.
