Description |
St. Francis Cathedral's Statue of Mary & Baby Jesus. News article in Morning Democrat 6-13-1908: "Two Statues for the Catholic Cathedral. There has been received by the Cathedral from the makers in Europe two of the most magnificent pieces of statuary that have come into this country for a long time. One is the statue of the Blessed Virgin and her child; the face of this piece of work is certainly one of the most beautiful in expression that could be turned out in the inanimate; the child held in her arm, holds a little globe surmounted with a cross in its hand. The other statue represents St. Joseph. These two pieces have been erected, the one in St. Joseph's altar and the other in the altar of the Blessed Virgin. It is interesting to know that although they have come the great distance lying between this city and Europe there was not a crack or break of any kind save the little wand held by the Blessed Virgin, this was broken, but can be easily be repaired." |
