Pleasant Valley School students. School District #12 was established in 1872. The first school house was one room located back up in the mountains a couple of miles. It was moved to the site of the stone building west of Pleasant Valley. It was replaced by a two-room frame building that burned. The stone school house came next.
One of the teachers at Pleasant Valley was William E. Hall from 1933-1934. Then he was principal of Eagle Valley grade school in Richland from 1934-1939. He obtained a PhD from Ohio State University and became a nationally-recognized expert in educational psychology with a special interest in studying gifted students. Dr. James Meehan, Hall's biographer, wrote this in an email to me dated 9-14-11: "A precocious pupil of Dr. Hall in Pleasant Valley School, a certain Freida Lambert, started him thinking about human potential and, when he moved to Eagle Valley, two students, Sara Beth and Hilda, re-invigorated his interest and drove him to go to Ohio State University to gain his Ph D. Hall went in 1989 on to co-found Talent Plus in Lincoln, Nebraska, which assists employers in hiring the most qualified applicants. Hall was born August 19, 1907, in McGregor, Iowa, and died April 21, 1998, in Omaha, Nebraska.
