Description BHS Class of 1904. Julius A. Churchill, Baker City Schools Superintendent.
Following are excerpts from an article on p. 2 about the history of "Baker City High School":
'"The High School was organized at the beginning of the second semester of the school year of 1888-89. At that time it had a three years' course and graduated its first class in 1891. In 1897 the course was changed from a three yers' to a four years' course and included two courses, Latin-Scientific and English. Later another course was added, makiing three four-year courses--Latin, English, and German. During its existence the High School has graduated seventy-two young men and seventy-two young women. The school was organized by Prof. Kittredge. Prof. J. A. Churchill took charge in the fall of 1892. At that time there was just one teacher in the school, the superintendent doing about half of the work. At present there are five teachers, the superintendent teaching but two classes. In 1891 there were forty-two students enrolled and in 1902-03 there were one hundred and twenty-six.
