Description Judge William H. Bentley (1832-1914). Bentley was living in Baker City as early as 1874. The 1880 census says he was 49 years old, a carpenter, born in Ohio, and living by himself in the area outside Baker City. For several years Bentley was Baker City police judge and auditor as early as 1890 until 1903. Polk's 1905 Baker City Directory lists Bentley as a notary with office and residence in the IOOF Building in 1700 block of Main St. He was father of attorney George Bentley, who defended Pleasant Armstrong, hanged for murder in 1904. Both father and son are buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
