Description James Waucop "Walkie" Tabor in 1947. He is author of "Granite and Gold," edited by his daughter, Theresa Tabor Fowler. This photo is from p. 5 of that book. Walkie was born December 31, 1865, first white child born in Grant County. He died March 9, 1948. He married Margaret McNulty, an 1873 pioneer of Canyon City, who came to Granite when five years old. They were married at the Monumental Mine in 1911. They also lived at the Columbia Mine, in Sumpter, in Bourne, in La Grande, but in 1932 during the Depression they moved back to Granite, where they were living when Walkie died in 1948. Walkie's father was Albert Gallatin Tabor (1829-1894). He came to the Granite area in 1862 from Marysville, California.
