Description |
Judge Lyle R. Wolff swearing in naturalized citizens, including Anthony "Tony" Day, age 3 1/2, who was adopted in Germany two years earlier by Ann Kniesel. The other three naturalized citizens are unidentified. Wolff was born 9-10-1919 in Nebraska, where he was raised by adoptive parents. He was a bomber pilot flying out of England during WWII. After the war he obtained a law degree from Harvard University and came to Oregon to practice settling in Baker City in about 1949. In 1957 he succeeded Circuit Court Judge John Brennan, who had died in office. Wolff was defeated for re-election in 1977 by attorney William Jackson, after which he moved to Salem, where he worked as an administrative law judge. He died in June 2005 from complications of diabetes. |
