Description |
Carl Kostol. As a civilian college student after discharge from the Army Air Corps at the end of WWII.
Just after graduation from Baker High School in May 1940, National Guard Co. F, of which he was a member, was activated. He served as a private in the Army until he applied for and was accepted into the Army Air Corps. In 1944 he flew B-25 bombers on 37 bombing missions. On that last mission he was shot down over the Yangtze River. Separated from the other seven members of his crew, it took Chinese guerillas almost a month to sneak him 200 miles through Japanese-occupied territory across the combat front. His crew also got safely back to their base. After the war Kostol studied medicine. Upon graduation he spent his career as a physician in Baker City. |
