| Charles Ellsworth Porter (1857-1947). According to a family history, Charles came from western Oregon via Canyon City to Baker City in about 1890, where he established the first telephone system. In the 1899 Baker City Directory he is listed as clerk of the Baker City water works. In 1901 his is listed as agent for the Singer Co.; 1903 as involved in mining; in 1912 as deputy assessor. |
