Description Bishop, Philip R., p. 46. Info in booklet:
"Born in London November 8, 1848. Sailed for Victoria, B. C., in 1862 arriving February 16, 1863. Went to the Cariboo mines arriving in July after traveling 400 miles on foot carrying a pack of 70 pounds and paying two dollars for each meal. He had a mine which he sold and went to Auburn in 1865, then to Mormon Basin, where he mined for 13 years. Then he bought the Dr. Boyd farm south of Baker City. In 1876 he married Miss Sarah N. Dickinson in Benson, Vermont. He raised stock. Discovered the Black Hawk, a deep gravel placer mine, 250 feet deep. His wife died in Dec. 1890. He also located the Mabel Mine. He raised the first $100 dollars from miners to build the Episcopal Church."
