Description |
Sumpter resident and miner Sherman Corey. There are five images of Corey attached to this record.
Brooks Hawley note: When Sherman Corey and Joe Meadows were partners on the 3 Cent Placer (located to the west of the top on the raod from Sumpter to Whitney), which is well know to be good ground, although the water did not last long enough, they would come to [Masonic] lodge quite regular and stay at their convenience at the house in Sumpter, especially during the winter. They were at 3 Cent until they got too old to do anything, Joe Meadows going to the Masonic and Eastern Star Home at Forest Grove, while Sherman Corey spent his last years at his ancentral home at Fredonia, N. Y., where Tyyne and I visited him in January 1958. Corey died at Fredonia on March 4, 1958. Corey also worked at the Ben Harrison, the North Pole, and the Old Blue mines.
