Description |
Mrs. Calbreath, first school teacher in Baker City in 1865-1866. According to James Evans in "Gold Dust and Chalk Dust:" Mrs. Calbreath had a subscription school in her home on 1st St. between Valley and Auburn. Then she taught in a little building on the corner of 4th and Auburn (probably NE corner). Later she taught in a small building on the east side of the 1900 block of Main St. The 1884 Sanborn map shows a tiny building about a third of a block from the south corner of the block. |
