Lyle and Louis Levinger, ca. 1901. Louis Levinger (7-15-1864 to 1940) married Lyle Laurence (5-27-1882 to 8-23-1935) in about 1901. Their children were Margaret Elizabeth Hewlett (10-18-1903 to 7-7-1973) and Henry Laurence (8-29-1907 to 1-4-1998). Louis was born in Kriegshaber, a suburb of Augsburg, Germany. The family sent him at age 13 to work for his brother Morris in in Rohnerville, near Eureka, California. He became a druggist, first in Oregon City and next in Portland. In 1898 he opened a drug store in Baker City. In about 1908 he sold his storet to Albert Rodamer and the family, due to his wife's health, went to Los Angeles, where Louis ran a drug store for Sam Hellman. When they returned he couldn't use the name Levinger Drug Co., so he called it Louis Levinger Rexall Drug Co. In the late 1930's Rodamer changed the name to A. Rodamer Drug Co. Henry Levinger became a druggist and worked with his father for about three years, then bought him out. |
