Description William R. Privett. "(Summarized.) Born in Missouri in 1847, came to Oregon with parents in 1852, who died en route. Lived with an uncle on a farm near Scio. Began teaching at age 16 in Linn County until age 21. Then he entered the Agricultural College at Corvallis graduating in 1871. He taught in Corvallis schools and then in Linn and Marion counties until 1888, when he moved to Baker City. He taught here until 1893, when he was elected county school superintendent on the Democratic ticket. He married Mary Shelton of Linn County in 1876. They have four children."
