Description SVRy engines #19 and #3 and crew members. From left to right: Eric Wunz of John Day, Jeff Chittick of Salem, Dale and Liz Trongale of Meridian, Idaho, Lon Wall of Durkee, Dick Thompson of Council, Idaho, Chuck Turner of Portland, and Bret Bane of Enterprise. The occasion for the photo was the retirement from service of engine #19, whose boiler certificate expired May 31, 2010. It will be returned to service after repairs. The 113-ton ngine #19 was constructed in June 1920 by American Locomotive Co. It was the last new engine purchased by SVRy and remained in service until 1941, when it was sold to White Pass & Yukon RR in Alaska. Sumpter Valley Railroad Restoration, Inc., acquired engine #19 in 1977. It was on display until restored to operating condition from 1992 to 1996. The present restoration is expected to take a year and cost $200,000.
