Description |
First train to arrive in Huntington in November 1884. Just west of Huntington In November 1884 the last spike was driven linking Oregon Railway & Navigation rails coming from the north and Oregon Short Line rails coming from the east, thus bringing intercontinental rail transportation to Eastern Oregon. Written on the back of the photo is "First Huntington train." Although the box cars in the background at left seem to contradict that statement, the five men in suits standing beside the tender stacked high with cord wood indicate there was something special about the train. |
