Description First automobile in Baker City, July 4, 1905. Notice that the drive train consists of a chain similar to one on a bicycle.
Occupants are Robert McCord and Berthold Neuberger (r.), employees of Heilner Store. Sign on car advertises: "Everything up to date at Heilner's, the Store for Nice Things." Sign in store window: "Restaurant, Meals 25 (cents)." Berthold Neuberger, accompanied by his brother Gerson, came to the Baker City around 1900. They worked in the Neuberger-Heilner Store until their deaths in the 1960's. They were nephews of Clara Heilner, wife of Sigmund Heilner, founder of the store in 1874.
