Description Macy Mine sample of sponge gold on leather jacket, 1938. Located in Sparta District a quarter mile east of Hole in the Wall landslide and a quarter mile up Maiden Gulch on Hwy 86 to Richland, about 30 miles east of Baker City. It was operated in the late 1930's and early 1940's by Lloyd Anderson and Ken Grabner. The mine was discovered in 1920. Production: about $90,000. Development work: 1500-2000 feet, mainly from adit levels. Elevation: 2555 feet
