Description |
Stices Gulch Placer Mine. Mine owner, Baker County Sheriff Harvey K. Brown, is probably the taller of the two men on the right. Stices Gulch is located on Dooley Mt. 10 miles due south of Baker City. Brown served as sheriff from 1902 to 1906. He unsuccessfully ran for the Republican nomination for governor of Oregon in 1906. On September 30, 1907 an assassin exploded a dynamite bomb attache to the gate post of Brown's home mortally wounding Brown, who died the next day. The identity of Brown's assassin was never discovered. |
