Klopp Placer Mine. Ca. half mile SW of the bridge over the North Fork of the John Day River and 9 miles SW of Anthony Lake.
Brooks Hawley note: A recent photo at the Ike Klopp placer by the North Fork bridge. Boulders in this glacier deposit were so large the water would not wash them away and they were piled in these ridges by a derrick, mining track, and dump car. Although this placer is extensive, it was not so rich. The big advantage was plenty of water to work with.
David West had the adjoining placer on Onion Creek. He now slumbers in Sumpter Cemetery, date scratched on a rough stone 1834-1924. They say his hobby was to perfect perpetual motion.
