Description Thornburg Placer Mine. Cabin with Thornburgs, Dickisons, and Gutridges.
Located on the North Fork of John Day River 7.4 miles NW of Granite.

Brooks Hawley notes: Mrs. Molly McCord at Baker gave me this report on May 22, 1967. This was her father's handwriting on their picture: "Our Log Cabin Home at our mine in midsummer 1894 Dickison, Gutridge, and Thornburg."

Left to right standing: Odessa Thornburg, Mattie Dickison, Mark Dickison, Maud Dickison Thornburg, Elmer Thornburg, George Brown (hired man), F. Graves (hired man), O. B. Stapleton (a cousin), Wm Fry (seated hired man), George Rea (hired man), Lewis Gutridge and Baby Ora, Emma Thronburg Gutridge. Seated: Rachel Dickison, A. J. Dickison and Baby Mollie.

Emma Gutridge was a sister of Grant and Elmer Thornburg. Husband Louis Gutridge was murdered by John McMahon at Granite April 1897. Olie Stapleton in dark shirt was Mark's second cousin. Girl at left is Odessa Thornburg, daugthter of Grant Thornburg. Child held by Louis Gutridge is Ora (Mrs. Med Bond). Molly McCord in 1967 says it's not Grant Thornburg in picture. Leaves three men not identified, likely not related to Dickisons.

Under the photo Hawley wrote: At Thornburg Placer on the North Fork of the John Day in 1894 copied from a picture from Earl Fry. Seated is Rachel and Jeff Dickison holding Mollie (later Mrs. Harvey McCord). The firl at the left is evidently not a Dickison. Next girl is Mattie Dickison (later Mrs. George Loennig). Behind Mrs. Dickison is Mark Dickison. Pair by door is Maude and Elmer Thornburg. Maude is Mark's oldest sister. Suppose man with white shirt is Grant Thornburg, brother of Elmer. Frye is father of Earl Fry. Mary Rachel Hanmoore was Artemus Jefferson Dickison's second wife. Mark's mother was Mary Eliza Oden. She died in 1885 and is buried at Granite. Jeff was later know as Uncle Billy.
