Dragline dredge. Consuelo.
Brooks Hawley note: The lettering says, "Consuelo Oregon Mines Sumpter Oregon." This is the electric dragline and the washing plant of Max Hoffman's doodle bug dredge that did all the doodle bug dredging above Sumpter, first on Cracker Creek and last on McCully Fork. Started May 1938. Was closed down winter of 1938-1939 but continued going into World War II. Vever went after the war. Max Hoffman was a handsome fellow with personality and his wife was beautiful. Consuelo comes from her name. She had the money. The first class outfit is supposed to have done good but Max Hoffman went broke on later ventures, not mining, and he committed suicide. He had been gambling in Reno, too.
