The house with the four sided roof is where Fred Young and his folks lived until it burned in the 1917 fire. The cupid house, Fred's grandmother. It is said that Thomas McEwen had a hundred horses, used in freighting , stage, and livery business. Only two years later at the height of his and Sumpter's activity, Thomas McEwen died suddenly from an ear infection at Portland, Sept. 13, 1903.
