Description La Bellevue Mine. Mill. Fred and John Cabell located the Bellevue Mine in 1875. Fred and his wife lived at the mine for 20 years. Their eight-year-old daughter died there. Fred died in Sumpter in 1914. His wife died in Baker City in April 1923. All three are buried on Onion Creek near the mine. (Tabor's "Granite and Gold," p. 64.)
Brooks Hawley note: Tom Kennedy had this mine many years. We used to know him. He had considerable southern charm. He would stop as he went by in buggy and driving team and talk of horses and dogs.
