Description |
California Mine. Mill.
Brooks Hawley notes: Evidently this is the mill that was new, July 1903, B.L. McClain, millwright, when the Turnagain Gold Mining Co., had the mine. The frame of this mill was still standing, in the 1950's, the last time I have been up there.
There was an earlier mill built in 1897, a 10 stamp mill that was remarkable for turning out a finished product, concentrates, of less value than the original $25 ore.
The California was just another mine that had some showing of ore, but never got much results, even though it was one of the 3 earliest quartz mines around here, located by the Cables in 1873.
