Description |
Mother Load Mine, aka Poorman Mine. Located in the Balm Creek area about 8 road miles north of Keating. There are enlarged halves of this photo also attached to this record. There was great hype starting in the early 1900s that the area would be the next great copper producer in the world with a copper belt extending from the Iron Dyke Mine on Snake River all the way to Keating area. Most of the mining was done 1935-1937, none since due to sporadic location of ore. The mine has 15,000 feet of tunneling with two shafts 700 and 420 feet deep. Production: 8,110 ounces gold, 1 million lbs of copper. In 1937 the yield included 1665 ounces of silver. |
