Flagstaff Mine. Located 5.8 miles NE of Baker City.
Photo shows mill building on ridge with other buildings on the slope below. Mine produced about $100,000 worth of gold, most of it before 1900. Workings include 760-ft shaft and 6,000 feet of tunnel.. Buildings destroyed long ago. Underground workings caved in.
The National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, which opened in 1992, is a couple hundred yards to the right. |
