Description Thomas Barnette Vernon's blacksmith shop in Auburn, Oregon. (There is no print. The image was made from a negative.) Meta Vincent Gibbs, great-grand-daughter of Vernon has identified the three people standing in the doorway: Martha Jane Vernon (daughter), Mary Jane Vernon (wife), and Thomas Barnette Vernon. Thomas came west on the Oregon Trail in about 1859. He eventually lived in Auburn, Baker City, and Wingville. Thomas B. Vernon (1830-1900), his first wife Mary Jane Vernon (died in 1876 at age 42), and his second wife, Endamille Swafford Vernon (1834-1923), are buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
