Description Huntington before railroad came in 1884 was located on the hillside. When the railroad came, Huntington's Main St. was moved down to the bottom of the hill. It appears in this photo that Burnt River ran along the bottom of the hill. If that's the case, then the channel was changed to run along the foot of the hill on the north side of the valley, probably to dry out a swampy valley bottom for use by the railroad.
