Description Tuff stone buildings in Baker. Top to bottom: St. Elizbeth Hospital on 4th St., Citizens National Bank, St. Francis Cathedral, Pythian Castle, Baker Public Library, Baker Loan & Trust Building, Palmer Jewelry plus Eagles and Jett buildings. The stone for these buildings was quarried near Pleasant Valley. Tuff stone has its origin from volcanic ash that has over time been compacted into a light weight, easily shaped building stone. But it is not a structural stone in these buildings, but rather it clads the outside of brick structures.
