| Welcome Arch, erected at 10th & D June 20, 1920. Chet Smith, who was born on 10th Street, sent me this email message right after he celebrated his 100th birthday May 10, 2011: "The original wording at the bottom of the curve, as you approach from the North, said, 'BAKER WELCOMES YOU. ENTER WITHOUT KNOCKING AND DEPART LIKEWISE.' If you look carefully at the photo you will see a different shade of paint was used to change the message." grd |
