Description Depot. Arrival of dignitary? It appears from the crowd and several top hats in the audience that the people were at the depot as a greeting party for an arriving dignitary. The photo had a notation that the dignitary was President Benjamin Harrison. A little research reveals that Pres. Harrison arrived by train on a 10,000-mile campaign tour on May 7, 1891, and delivered a short speech to 1,500 persons. The official greeters were Mayor S. B. McCord, R. S. Anderson, and George H. Tracy. However, his train arrived at 11:30 p.m. and left shortly for Boise, where he delivered a speech at 7:00 a.m the next day. The shadows in this photo clearly show that it was taken in broad daylight, ergo the people in this photo were not awaiting Pres. Harrison. Some other occasion prompted this crowd.
