Description Marker. Ezra Meeker (hand on ox) helped dedicate the Old Oregon Trail monument (now located in Geiser-Pollman Park) in 1906 on his retracing of the Oregon Trail from west to east. Caption at bottom: "Monument on Old Oregon Trail and Ezra Meeker (one word?) Baker City, Oregon." However, this photo was taken in 1910, when Meeker came through on his second retracing of the trail. Posing with Meeker are Baker City druggist John Wisdom and School Superintendent J. A. Churchill (right). Compare images 1981.1.174 & 1981.1.412, which show the marker without bronze plaque, which was attached in 1906 after Meeker had dedicated the monument. The money for the plaque was raised by several hundred school children.
